HBWs under pressure Fuel crisis hits HBWs during peak season

Home-based workers are suffering due to high oil prices, shortage of gas and increased electricity bills. Due to the war situation in the Middle East, people have to spend time in long queues for fuel. Shortage of fuel and gas have led to home-based workers having to limit their productions.

It is not easy to increase the prices of products to keep pace with the fuel price increase. Customers are not ready to buy products for higher prices. INDECOS is ready to provide training to select home-based workers around how they can change their methodology to use minimum fuel, gas or electricity.

Firewood, which is available in rural areas, can be used to make sweets, food items etc. Already, many women have begun to cook with firewood.

INDECOS is always thinking of appropriate mechanisms to respond to disaster-based epidemics. April is the month suitable for peak business due to the Sinhala New Year. It is the best period for marketing and income generation, but unfortunately due to the war started in February, it has become a serious barrier for women home-based workers in terms of income generation and business.

INDECOS will continue to study the situation to offer practical solutions for the home-based women workers ecosystem.
